I see writing, artistic research and art practice as one continuous, long-term process that develops through my work. This project brings together three interconnected forms: my book Rohkeus kohdata – Taiteilija vanhustyössä (2023), my master’s thesis in the Art Expertise programme at the University of Lapland (2025), and my website, where I articulate and develop my artistic research practice.
My work explores the aesthetics of ageing, human encounter and everyday life within eldercare contexts. I approach encounter as an aesthetic and ethical event—something that takes shape in shared situations rather than through predefined outcomes. Writing is not a way of documenting this work afterwards, but a method of thinking within it.
The book Rohkeus kohdata is grounded in my long-term practice as a community artist in eldercare, opening perspectives on sociocultural animation, artistic processes and the role of art in care environments. My master’s thesis deepens these themes through the lens of everyday aesthetics and its ethical dimensions, situating artistic practice within broader philosophical and societal discussions.
Alongside these, my website functions as a living space for artistic research. It brings together texts, concepts and projects, allowing artistic thinking to unfold in a non-linear and process-based way. Rather than presenting finished results, it traces how understanding emerges through encounters, impressions and shared situations.
Across these forms, writing, artistic practice and research are inseparable. This project reflects an ongoing process of exploring how art can open spaces for encounter, recognition and participation in the everyday lives of older adults.
